Our Work

The Akshaya Patra work in Karnataka began in the year 2000 when the Foundation's first kitchen was opened at HK Hill. Today Akshaya Patra runs six centralised kitchen in Karnataka - two in Bengaluru (HK Hill and Vasanthapura), and one each in Ballari, Hubballi, Mangaluru and Mysuru. Each of these kitchens are centralised and equipped with the latest cooking machinery including huge cauldrons for cooking, and chutes and trolleys to maneuver food.

Together these kitchens feed 463,682 children across 2,629 schools in the area. From its beginning in Bengaluru in the year 2000, feeding just 1,500 children across 5 schools, today Akshaya Patra feeds over 1.4 million children across 10,770 schools across the country. Though the Foundation has come far, it is still striving towards fulfilling its mission of feeding 5 million children by 2020.

Akshaya Patra has achieved the growth of the past years through the support of the Central and State Government, and assistance from individual donors, corporates and interested groups. In order to keep growing at a steady pace, The Foundation needs to maintain the trust of all its stakeholders, and achieves this through adhering to strict levels of financial and operational transparency. In doing this Akshaya Patra works towards one day eliminating classroom hunger in India.
